This and more is offered by eMedia Monitor Pegasus
System. Full StoryDounia works in the Communication and Press
Department of a Ministry of Foreign Affairs. One of her tasks is to provide
the crisis groups with the latest radio and TV news. Dounia has to
react quickly when a crisis group is set up: no time to negotiate with
different providers if they cover radio and TV channels in a specific
region. Using eMM, Dounia knows that she can tap any time into more than 330
available channels, covering 5 continents in 7 languages (see Coverage). Dounia has to
be fast and flexible, as she has to present relevant findings within a short
time. She needs to implement changes to requests immediately to see results
on the spot, and in any case the Ministers and the Head of Government have
to receive information on new developments at the moment of broadcasting. In
short, Dounia needs to get information on new topics, and she has to know if
a topic is brand-new or if it was mentioned in the news several times
before. Implementation with eMMCreating Channel
GroupsDounia can react quickly to any new demand or change in her
eMM account: she can modify existing Channel Groups herself, and she can
create new Channel Groups if necessary.
Dounia creates a
new Channel Group by clicking the “Create…” button, then she ticks the
desired regions or channels, types a name for the channel group and clicks
the “Save” button. The option “Select by region” lists all available
TV or radio channels by country. The option “Select by media type”
lists all available channels per country, first radio then
TV. Creating ProfilesWith eMM, Dounia is in the position to
work independently and she can perform changes without intermediate stages.
She can set up and change as many profiles as she needs, using keywords and
combinations of keywords. She can set up and change her queries
independently, at any time. To organize her profiles, Dounia has
created Profile Groups. Each Profile Group consists of several Profiles,
each covering a country together with the relevant topics. Dounia can
modify and delete the Profiles and the Profile Groups according to her
instant needs (see Features -
Create Profiles).
Dounia has selected to be notified
by Web and by e-mail every time one of her search terms is mentioned on
radio or TV (see Features -
Real-Time Alerts). She will receive an e-mail containing the first image
frame, date, time, channel and transcript text with keywords highlighted.
This e-mail gives her direct access to the radio or TV content. Moreover all
results can be found in eMM's system (see Features - Create
Profiles). It is also possible to view results for modified or new
profiles by clicking the HTML symbol. The results will show up in a list
sorted in reverse chronological order, the search keyword is highlighted in
red. Getting ResultsThe blistering speed offered by eMM
(alerts received in less than 1 minute after the broadcast time) matches the
level of service Dounia requires at this level of crisis management. Dounia
is notified by e-mail every time one of her keywords is mentioned, and all
results can be found in eMM's system.
Each result is illustrated with the
first picture frame of the video sequence, respectively a microphone for
radio stations. The headline shows date, time, logo and the name of the
broadcast station where the search term was mentioned. The result is shown
with the transcript text, and the search terms are highlighted within the
text. The two numbers shown with each profile name indicate the number of
hits excluding resp. including duplicates (e.g. a duplicate within a short
time on the same channel, or in the same channel at some point
later). Only these features make a quick decision possible for Dounia:
she can forward the most important news directly to the Minister of Foreign
Affairs, who cannot afford any delay in informing the Head of
Government. Sending a Clip via e-mailDounia can easily edit
and create a shorter clip. So she will not send a 5 minutes interview, when
the relevant information is only a clip of 30 seconds.
Dounia defines
the clip by simply clicking into the text. She can then forward the clip via
e-mail. The e-mail contains date, time, logo and name of the broadcast
station where the search term was mentioned together with the transcript
text. The recipients can either click on the picture or on the channel
name to view the video.

Dounia doesn't waste her time ordering and waiting for the
media items to be delivered, she doesn't have to cope with tedious
delay uncertainty: the transcriptions and clips are immediately
available. Dounia can concentrate on her task and give 100% of her
time to support the teams. |
Watching trends to be prepared for a possible
crisisThe production and forwarding of short audio and video clips
allows decision makers to make a judgement on short notice, but for an
in-depth analysis it is essential for Dounia to have access to the original
videos, raw data in full length with a maximum of context. All alerts
Dounia has received via e-mail were created as results of profiles, and can
be found in eMM's system on the Recent Clips page (see Features - Recent
Clips). The trend analysis tool is an instrument used by Dounia to
warn her colleagues of arising topics or peaks of particular items (for
example a person involved in the crisis who got a particularly high number
of quotes, which means that he has become a major actor of the
crisis). eMM allows you to view the number of mentions of keywords,
phrases or profiles in comparison with other keywords, phrases or profiles.
In a competitive analysis this provides a picture of the comparable mentions
over a period of time.
Dounia selects up to three profiles
to compare, and optionally a few channels or Channel Groups. She uses the
function "Make Graph" to create the desired analysis.
The graphical
analysis shows the numbers of mentions per day for each search term or
profile. Dounia can click the numbers in the table to see individual
query results. She can use the original data (transcription, clips) to
illustrate the reports she prepares for her colleagues. See how eMM
