Full Story

Celia works in the Department of Media and Communications of an international trading company. As Assistant to the Marketing Director she is responsible for monitoring all company mentions on radio and TV. One of her tasks is the reporting on events and promotion activities in detail, for example what is reported in the media before, while and after the activity? Is the company or one of the cooperation partners involved in any scandal?

Celia needs to find citations of journalists and top managers, mentions of her company's brands, mentions of competitors and their brands, and certainly all laws or regulations related to her company's activities on radio and TV.

Therefore she needs to be flexible in creating different queries and searching for specific keywords or phrases, and to get results in real time so that the management is able to react with the appropriate measures.

At the same time one of her tasks is to verify that advertising spots were broadcast at the date and time as contracted with each channel.

Implementation with eMM

Creating Channel Groups

Celia can respond quickly to any new requirement or change in coverage: in her eMM account she can modify existing channel groups autonomously, and she can create new channel groups if needed. She assigns a channel groups to each profile, which helps her for example to count the exact number of hits resulting from a specific PR action that has been conducted by her company in a specific country or region.

Create a new channel group in the Channel Group Editor

Celia creates a new Channel Group by clicking the “Create…” button, then she ticks the desired regions or channels, types a name for the channel group and then she clicks the “Save” button.

Creating Profiles

With eMM, Celia is in the position to respond quickly and independently to any situation and she can perform changes without intermediate stages. She can set up as many profiles as she needs, using keywords or phrases and combinations of keywords.

Create a new profile

To organize her profiles, Celia has created a Profile Group for each brand, and each Profile Group consists of several Profiles, each covering a country or a language. She can modify and delete the Profiles and the Profile Groups according to her instant needs.

She can immediately view results for modified or new profiles by clicking the HTML symbol. The results will show up in a list sorted in reverse chronological order, the search keyword is highlighted in red.

Getting Results

Celia has selected to be notified by Web and by e-mail every time one of her search terms is mentioned on radio or TV (see Features - Real-Time Alerts). She will receive an e-mail containing the first image frame, date, time, channel and transcript text with keywords highlighted. This e-mail gives her direct access to the radio or TV content. Moreover all results can be found in eMM's system (see Features - Recent Clips).

Example: automated content alert

The blistering speed offered by eMM (alerts received within 1 minute after the broadcast time) matches the level of service Celia requires. Celia is notified by e-mail every time one of her keywords is mentioned, and all results can also be found in eMM's system.

Getting search results

Each result is illustrated with the first picture frame of the video sequence, respectively a microphone for radio stations. The headline shows date, time, logo and the name of the broadcast station where the search term was mentioned. Each result is shown with the transcript text, and the search terms are highlighted within the text. The two numbers shown with each profile name indicate the number of hits excluding resp. including duplicates (e.g. a duplicate within a short time on the same channel, or in the same channel at some point later).

Only these features make a quick decision possible for Celia: she can forward the most important news directly to the Marketing Director, who decides on further activities.

Sending a Clip via e-mail

Considering all circumstances going along with an event, Celia has to be informed also about weather or traffic conditions. For example, when testimonials, celebrities or advertising people cannot be on time for a presentation, or an event has to be cancelled due to external circumstances like a storm or a demonstration. Celia can select to be alerted in real time via e-mail, and she can create a short clip to forward an update. So she will not send a 5 minutes news report, when the relevant information is only a clip of 5 seconds.

Media View window showing a clip

Celia defines the clip by simply clicking into the text. She can then forward the clip via e-mail.

The e-mail contains date, time, logo and name of the broadcast station where the search term was mentioned together with the transcript text.

The recipients can either click on the picture or on the channel name to view the video.

Example: automated content alert

Celia doesn't waste her time waiting for the media items to be delivered, she doesn't have to cope with tedious delay uncertainty: the transcriptions and clips are immediately available.

Select a specific radio or TV channel to see a specific advertising spot

Meanwhile, Celia can focus on another part of her job: to verify that advertising spots were broadcast at the date and time as contracted with each channel.

In eMM's system Celia selects “Search” - “GoTo” and then selects a channel from the drop down list.

This feature allows Celia to view a specific point in time from the selected radio or TV channel, or select the time to view from the list of programs on this channel.

Select "Search" - "Go To" from the menu bar

Select a specific radio or tv channel

Select a specific date and time

Celia selects the date and hour according to a provided list (e.g. she has signed a contract for a special commercial to be promoted shortly before the morning news at 6:00) and then she clicks on the minute to view the media.

select a specific date and time from the provided list

Having the possibility to verify the work of radio and TV stations is essential to find out if the stations do follow the contract or not.

Getting Results

When Celia clicks on the minute, the clip starts to play automatically in a new window. Celia can scroll with the time bar, until she finds the advertising spot she is looking for.

Media View window showing a clip

Celia may find it interesting to forward and/or to download the record. She then uses the function "Make My Clip", and by defining the start and the end time she creates the desired clip (see Features - Edit Clips).

Creating Clips

Each clip is immediately available to Celia, without having to worry about exceeding her budget each time she needs a video, and without having to order an item from a provider and wait for it to be delivered: everything is at her disposal.

Define a clip following a few easy steps

To create a clip, Celia follows these easy steps:

  1. To start the video clip in the left video player, either click on a picture frame or into the time line.
