Full Story

Alain is Senior Media Analyst in a prominent political survey institute. He works on in-depth analyses, drawing trends by comparing the coverage of politicians or political themes on radio and TV.

Alain does not want to be bothered by many incoming e-mails each time a topic was mentioned in the media.

He needs a system where he can draw analyses for a given period of time, and where he can access the original data in full length with a maximum of context.

Implementation with eMM

Creating Profiles

The first step is to create profiles. Alain has set up different profiles in eMM's system, using keywords and combinations of keywords.

Alain is in the position to work independently and autonomously, hence with a high level of confidentiality.

He can set up as many profiles as he needs, and he can perform changes at any time. With eMM it is possible to view results also for modified profiles from the last 24 to 36 hours (see Features - Create Profiles).

Create a new profile

To organize his Profiles, Alain has defined a Profile Group for each country. He has selected to be notified only by Web, not by e-mail (see Features - Real-Time Alerts). So, every time one of the search terms is mentioned on radio or TV, the result can be found in eMM's system (see Features - Recent Clips), and Alain is not disturbed in his daily work by too many incoming e-mails.

Setting up Trend Parameters

The next step is to set up the trend parameters. The system of eMM can compare up to 6 existing profiles or keywords. In a competitive analysis this provides a picture of the comparable mentions over a period of time.

Set up trend parameters to compare items

Alain selects up to three profiles to compare, then he selects the Date Range and individual channels.

He then uses the function "Make Graph" to create the desired analysis.

View Mentions Analysis for Defined Parameters

The graphical analysis shows the number of mentions per day for each search term or profile.

The table below the graphic contains the same numbers, and Alain can click the numbers to see the individual query results.

View mentions analysis for defined parameters

Using eMM Alain has found a tool that combines powerful search capabilities with immediate availability of every single mention used in the calculation. He can use original data (transcription, clips) to illustrate the reports he prepares for his clients.

Viewing Search Results

By just clicking on a number, Alain can access all the hits for that item that day.

Each result is illustrated with the first picture frame of the video sequence, respectively a microphone for radio stations and gives him direct access to the radio or TV content.

Getting search results

To review, edit and save one of the clips, Alain can either click on the image or on the headline, the "Media View" window will open and the clip will start to play automatically (see Features - Edit Clips).

Alain can also extract some items and use them to illustrate the presentations for his clients, using all the clips he edited and saved during the survey period. A simple detail that makes his professional activity outstanding.

Data can also be copied and pasted into a spreadsheet, and then saved for immediate use or for future reference.
